UX Designer and Researcher

About

I define design as

a process of problem solving.

On my path to UX Design, I’ve been inspired by my experiences in teaching, creating, writing, observing, and always learning. A deep love of writing and literature led me to an English degree, while my interests in psychology, language and art drew my career towards education and ceramic design.

Inspired by the research-oriented pedagogy of Montessori education, I spent seven years in Early Childhood classrooms, where I sometimes explained my job in five words as this: “I observe for a living.” Each day of teaching was about individualized learning based on observation, collaboration with my co-teaching team, and designing a classroom that responded to the needs of the students and their learning styles.

I’ve been working with clay for a decade, creating and selling my functional tableware, apprenticing in a community pottery studio, and teaching artists of all ages. As a potter, I’ve spent countless hours over the years in pursuit of perfecting the mug handle that feels just right in the hand. Why not settle for something that just looks good? Because an object you use every day should respond to your needs.

I’m a big fan of sharing knowledge, whether working to find a solution as a team or making my own learning more vibrant through teaching. I’m passionate about empathy-centered research. I see design as an approach to problem solving - the design process informs a beautiful and useful product. I’d love to talk about working together to create beautiful and functional solutions.
